Some Euro and Land Truck Simulators to get a total ignition pass

We get along love a second of trucking here at PC Gamer, but I'll readily admit that SCS's bear-sized rig sims are a bit bland to look at. Fortunately, both Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American language Truck Simulator just became a whole mint prettier, thanks to a new lighting update introduced over the weekend.

Thither's a great deal that's gone into update 1.40's kindling changes, and the developer dives deep into the technical details rear the overhaul in a Steamer announcement post. The engine's initial lighting system was designed a tenner past, and graphics tech has come a long way since then.

Intrinsically, light sources are now more than accurately modelled against their real-humans counterparts, rather than an guess conjecture inside outdated limitations. The tv camera right away takes promiscuous exposure into account, patc the overhaul also helped add some crispness to reflections appearance on bright surfaces.

Just from the screenshots shown, it appears to be working. In that location's always been a sort of flat look to SCS's truck sims, and this overhaul goes a long means towards adding more depth and animation to the roads of Europe and the US.

Simply with substantial changes to the ignition, SCS has had to bring i sweeping adjustments to plenty of artwork assets across some games—touching up rougher textures and models that were more than acceptable in the mature system. But this work should better set up both games for even larger visual overhauls in next, with plans to introduce physically-based rendering somewhere down the road.

With the 1.40 update currently in Open Beta for both games, the Euro reading is also working towards overhauling Germany's visuals, and adding bran-new French locations in preparation for the forthcoming Iberia DLC.

20 long time past, Nat played Jet Hardened Radio receiver Next for the first time—and she's not obstructed thinking about games since. Joining PC Gamer in 2020, she comes from trinity eld of independent reporting at Rock Paper Shotgun, Waypoint, VG247 and many. Embedded in the European indie scene and having herself developed critically acclaimed little games like Can Androids Pray, Nat is always looking for a new oddment to scream about—whether IT's the next best indie darling, or plainly someone modding a Scotmid into Black Mesa. She's also played for a competitive Splatoon squad, and unofficially appears in Peak Legends under the nom de guerr Horizon.
